In 1987, after the purchase of the Capitol Theatre by the city, the Brantford Heritage Theatre Foundation spearheaded a highly successful fundraising campaign for the restoration and renovation of the theatre.  The campaign goal for all renovations was $5,100,000. Costs were to be shared among the three levels of government accompanied by a general fund raising in the community.
